Well, I started out from home to the Galiuro Mountains about 9AM Friday, 13 Jan. Maybe that was the problem; Friday the 13th. Heading east on I-10, down hill from Texas Canyon, I hear, on the CB a plaintive wail from Kathy: "You better drive this jeep and find out what was wrong. I'll drive the pickup with the tent camper." Uh Oh!!! Kathy never tows anything. I knew there was trouble for sure.

And, yes, the Jeep had started grinding and clinking pretty bad, but kept going. Sooooo,I decided to go as far as I could. It actually got me to camp. After turning onto Muleshoe Road, I discovered Kathy was no longer behind me, so I turned around to look for her. I found her at the mailboxes near to the junction of Muleshoe Road and 3 links road. As I stepped down from the Jeep, Kathy said "You're going to kill me". Yes, Friday the 13th curse was still with me. Unknown to Kathy the passenger side tire on the tent camper had gone flat. She had drivin on the flat about 20 miles. Needless to say, there was only shreds of the tire left and the wheel had been pounded flat. Changed the flat, glad I had a spare, and continued on to the campsite. Now I was worried because I knew bad things happened in threes and only two had happend so far. Arrived at the campsite only to find someone else was already camping in it. As previously planned, I continued up the road about another 2/10 of a mile to another site and set up camp. (I was born in Texas, so my 2/10 of a mile is somewhat longer than other folk's 2/10 of a mile). About 11 AM went to look for other folks and found them on Muleshoe road wondering if they were in the correct place. Led them into the camp site and started to get some fire wood. I returned to find Stacy had arrived but was complaining about the 2/10 of a mile thing. Not sure why. Still worried about the third bad thing not showing up yet. About 8PM Stacy and I went to find Mitch and Susan. Found them on the on Muleshoe road and attached his trailer to my pickup to make it easier for him to move his house (motorhome) down the road. Explained he needed to go an additional 2/10 mile further on the camp site road and took off with his jeep and trailer. Must have been about 9:30 PM when Mitch arrive in camp on foot with a flashlight. He was also, complaining about the 2/10 of a mile thing (can't understand this). We had a great time mingling around the camp fire and finally went to bed about 11PM. That is when I discovered the third thing. The furnace in the tent camper wouldn't lite. Now I have a grippy wife (Friday the 13th). I still don't know why it wouldn't lite. Ignited fine when I got home (naturally). The next two days were wonderful. Trail runs were very scenic and we took way too may pictures. Sondra drove her jeep 4wheeling for the first time and we had some exciting times talking her through some scary spots. The evening cooking, sipping toddies and commeradie was super. Mitch trailered my jeep back home and I drove his Jeep (thanks Mitch). The return trip was uneventful and all arrived in good order. Friday the 13th resulted in Kathy and I winning the hard luck trophy at the following meeting. There are still plenty of unexplored trails and some geocashes to be found. Guess we will need another repete trip. Hope some others will join us next time.
