In case you have never considered buying or selling your Jeep on e-bay here is my recent favorable experience. Ist of all I had a 4x4 V6 TRD Taco that I was trying to sell localy for my son. After 4 months, and spending several hundred dollars on advertisement I couldn't sell it even though it was in excellent condition and we were advertising it about $5000 below kbb. My other son suggested that I advertise it on e-bay motors. So I checked out their website at www.motors.ebay.com to see what similar vehicles were selling for and how sellers were describing their vehicles. The next day I took about 30 pictures of the truck and wrote up a nice description and uploaded it all onto e-bay following their online instructions. There is an ebay motors seller assist service for about 10 bucks that will automatically upload all of your pictures and text and place it into a professional looking format.

Anyway it worked. I was getting bids from all over the country and ended up selling it offline (privately) to an ebay bidder in Portland, Oregon who wired me the money and flew in the following weekend to pick up his new 4x4 truck. When you advertise on e-bay you commit to sell your item to the highest bidder. However you can give them a reserve price (the minimum price you are willing to sell the car for) that is not made public to the bidders. If the public bidding doesn't exceed your reserve price you are not committed to sell you car and you do not have to pay a selling fee.

After that quick sale experience I thought why not buy my next Jeep on e-bay motors. I had been looking for a Rubicon in Arizona. Unfortunately there were only 2 to choose from and their average price was about $28500 with 12500 miles. Checking on e-bay motors I found 28 for sale ranging in price from $19k to $27k with anywhere from 12 to 34,000 miles on them. Some where for sale by private parties while others were listed by dealers.
So I checked out the ones I thought I would like and e-mailed the sellers to ask some questions about their Jeep and more importantly to find out their phone number or e-mail address so that I could deal with them directly (offline) without going through e-bay. Another concern I had was that I was limiting myself to Jeeps within a 2 day maximum drive from here so that I could pick it up and not have it shipped. Luckily there were 9 Rubicons for sale in Texas and several others in Utah and Colorado. Out of these there were 3 I liked. So I watched their bidding action for several days. The one I really liked was located at a Ford dealer in Houston, TX and the bidding was stalling out at about $17,000 3 days before the auction end. The "Buy It Now Price" was advertised at $24950. So I made a private offer of $21k directly to the seller before the end of the auction. He accepted the offer. I wired him the money, flew to Dallas 2 days later and picked up my 4 month old near brand new 04 Rubicon with only 3812 miles on it and drove it home to AZ, smiling all of the way. The original window sticker price was over $32k.

Since my Jeep drove better than anticipated and my wife didn't complain about driving in it, I sold my other near new daily driver on e-bay the following week to a man in Las Cruces, NM. In my opinion it's a good convenient place to sell or buy a vehicle. You may not always get top dollar for it but at least it's out of your driveway. There are some built in buyer protections and free vehicle warranties in effect when buying vehicles on e-bay motors. My selling fees ranged from $40 to about $90 per vehicle and will vary with the selling options selected.

Check it out at motors.ebay.com. 1-Click on "FIND CARS WITH SMART SEARCH". 2-Selct VEHICLE MAKE - Jeep, Vehicle Model - Wrangler. 3- Click on SEARCH. The vehicle year range and price Range are self explanatory. Have FUN.......
