Gardner Canyon & Saw Mill Trail Run - April 19, 2009 |
|
Thursday, 14 May 2009 |
|
Gardner Canyon Trail, not to be confused with the Garden Canyon Trail on the Fort, is located north-east of Sonoita in the Santa Rita Mountain foothills where placer gold (the other shiny metal) was first discovered in Arizona in the late 1800’s. This 19 mile loop trail has it all. Dirt and rock trails up and down in the woods with wash outs, mild off-camber situations, a water crossing, a solid rock stair steps section, lots of trees, a gold mine or two, an early 20th century mining camp, and more. The Saw Mill Trail is a scenic 3 mile dead end spur that leaves the GCT near its end. This trail is rated a solid 2.5 with its loose rock covered steep ascends and descends. This trail terminates in a very scenic cool shaded heavy wooded area with a stream. |

Club Donates to Cochise Cowboy Poetry & Music Gathering |
|

The Range Riders 4 Wheelers donated $100 to support the 18th Annual Cochise Cowboy Poetry & Music Gathering. The 2010 Gathering, to be held in February at Buena High School , will offer a unique view, as it has before, into our Western heritage painted in your imagination through word and music. This very popular annual entertaining event relies on the support of over 100 volunteers and on donations from the public, organizations, clubs, local businesses for its operation. In addition to organizing and hosting the Gathering the nonprofit organization operates the "Western Heritage Program" where local cowboy poets and musicians visit children in 23 Cochise County elementary and secondary schools where they perform cowboy poetry, music, and discuss cowboy life and our western heritage. They are committed to the young people of our community and in conjunction with the teachers encourage the students to write cowboy/western poetry each year. The poems are judged and prizes are awarded at all grade levels. A collection of the "best of the young cowboy poets" is published each year in The Saddlebag of Poems. Proceeds from the sale of this booklet benefits the participating schools. |

The RangeRiders 4 Wheelers meet every third Wednesday of the month at the Golden Corral Restaurant on Highway 92 in Sierra Vista at 6:30pm. Non-members are welcome to attend a meeting.
Our club goes on runs several times a month. Some will be listed in the calendar at this site, you are welcome to join us provided your vehicle meets the minimum requirements that will be specified in the calendar details.
In addition to sponsoring runs we are also avid campers and hold many campouts each year. Our most recent addition to our annual calendar is a New Years Eve trip to the Florence area where we will camp for an extended weekend and go on the trails in the area. A club favorite is our summer campout at our campground near Patagonia where we have games, potluck, trails for all skillsets, a raffle and nightly bonfires. We will also take advantage of many long weekends throughout the year and head for the hills. |
